SUNDAY MORNING

on the way to the mailbox

To say Fall is in the air is cliche, but this Sunday morning it was. Just a little cooler and a bit of atmosphere for the light to filter through.

The oaks, dogwood and redbud have not released all their foliage but what has made it to earth is dry and rustles underfoot.

And the light sparkles in the quiet morning.

No traffic noise, a distant dog barks at an early jogger and the tap, tap, tap of a woodpecker……..

and you turn to see your wife standing by the window holding an empty cup wondering why you didn’t make a fresh pot of coffee.

I forgot, we don't take the paper.
